E. E. Miller Elementary first opened its doors in 1991. With a population of over 1,000 students, we were one of the largest elementary schools in North Carolina. Despite our large size, we managed to create a warm and friendly learning environment. In 1996 we were awarded the Governor's Entrepreneurial Award for innovation in educational practices. In 1997, we were proud to be selected for a National Blue Ribbon Schools Award. In 1999, we began our transition to a Year Round School by having both a traditional schedule and a year-round schedule. After a year of being a school within a school we fully implemented the Year Round model. In 2007 we were excited to implement a Spanish Immersion program.
