1996 Governor’s Entrepreneurial Schools Award

Our charge was to look for schools that not only have a vision for the future, but are able to balance economic and social requirements with individual and cultural ones. We were also looking for schools with the courage to share their entrepreneurial endeavors with others in the educational community…
~ Governor’s Teacher Advisory Committee

Entrepreneurial Schools, through responsible risk taking, seek cutting-edge solutions to education challenges. They turn innovative ideas into programs that increase student achievement and improve the quality of life for the children of our state.
~State of North Carolina, Office of the Governor

E. E. Miller was awarded the 1996 Governor’s Entrepreneurial Schools Award as a leading school in North Carolina. Our school was one of eight applicants from across the state that was visited by members of the Teacher Advisory Committee. Selection for the N. C. Entrepreneurial Award was based on high test scores, character education, physical fitness, student, and parent satisfaction. The advising committee toured each of the schools, evaluating every aspect of the school. E. E. Miller stood out in the following areas: Site Based Management, FAME (Volunteer Programs), Business Collaborations, Grant writing, GEO-Bears, Gross Motor Room, Pet Parlor, First Union Kids’ Bank, Mastery Learning, Cooperative Learning, Multiage Classes, Developmentally Appropriate Practices, Parents Assisting Student Success (PASS), Science/Math Rally, and Inclusion.
